  Information:

Pine is the collective name given to the many varieties of white softwoods that grow in the forests of the northern hemisphere.

The tree grows quickly, making it inexpensive and readily available.
For this reason, the imitation of pine in the form of graining is unusual except for purposes of matching-up to existing timber.

The tree throws off many short, regular branches giving pine its familiar scattering of knots, discolorations and irregularities.
Although pine is silky white to cream in colour when new, it mellows with age and with the addition of protective coatings.
This results in colours ranging from light fawn, through pale gold, to deep tan.

The painted imitation of timber; 'graining' or 'woodgraining' is taught at various places throughout the world.
