Information:
Carrara Marble derives its name from its place of origin - the Carrara mountains of Italy.
It consists of crystalline limestone with grey cracks (carbon minerals deposited over millions of years).
There are several vein and colour variations including 'Statuary' (pure white with no veins, used mainly for sculptures).
The background usually consists of white and pale grey mottles, with veins and spots of colour ranging from white to deep grey.
It is used on small ornaments, clocks etc. through to large decorative marble columns and wall panels.
The painted imitation of marble; 'marbling' is taught at various places throughout the world.
